About the print
— THE STORY —
Lew Hoad had the game that contemporaries described with disbelief: violent, elegant, complete, capable of humiliating anyone on his good days. In 1956 he won Australia, Paris and Wimbledon and arrived in New York needing one match for the Grand Slam: his friend Rosewall stopped him in the final. In 1957 he retained Wimbledon with a demolition remembered among the most perfect finals ever played. Then his back betrayed him: professional tours, pain, injections, and a career finished in essence at twenty-three. He moved to Spain to teach tennis under the sun, beloved by everyone. Those who saw him swear that, healthy, he would have won everything. The back broke; the awe never did.

There is a moment almost all of us lived through, and almost nobody photographed: an older person telling you about a match you never saw. Lost Teams tells the stories of teams and champions who no longer exist, and what they left behind.
Every print begins with a true fact: a number that looks like a misprint and is not.
Hang it. One day someone will ask you what it is, and you will know where to begin.
