About the print

He promised one and hit three. Johnny Sylvester was eleven, seriously ill in bed after an accident, and a family friend got word to the Yankees. Babe Ruth sent a signed ball and, by the account that has come down to us, a promise to hit a home run for him.

That afternoon, in game four of the 1926 World Series at Sportsman's Park, Ruth hit three. It was the first time anyone had hit three home runs in a World Series game.

The boy recovered. The story has been retold so often that parts of it have been polished smooth, but the box score has not moved.

Stories worth passing on, not just remembering.
