Lost Teams print
Busby Babes Art Print, Munich 1958, Vintage Black and White Football Wall Art
About the print
Eight players. Matt Busby built a team out of boys and refused to sell any of them. They won the league in 1956 and 1957 with an average age of about twenty-two, and the newspapers called them the Busby Babes.
On 6 February 1958 their plane, returning from a European Cup tie in Belgrade, crashed on its third attempt to take off from a slush covered runway in Munich. Twenty-three people died, eight of them players.
Duncan Edwards, who was twenty-one and whom many still call the finest English footballer there has been, lasted fifteen days. Busby was read the last rites twice and survived to build another team.
Stories worth passing on, not just remembering.
