About the print
78,717. That is how many people were at the Stade de France on 7 May 2000 to watch the Coupe de France final. One of the two teams was Calais RUFC, from the fourth division, whose players worked ordinary jobs during the week.
They had played eleven matches to get there. No amateur club had ever reached the final before.
Nantes won it two one, with both goals from Antoine Sibierski, the second from a penalty late in the game. Calais led at half time. The cup was lifted by the professionals, and the photographs from that evening are almost all of the losing side.
Stories worth passing on, not just remembering.
