Coppi and Bartali Art Print, One Bottle, Tour de France 1952, Vintage Black and White Wall Art

About the print

One bottle, and seventy years of argument. They divided the country. Coppi was the modern one, Bartali the devout one, and Italians defined themselves by which one they supported in a way that had very little to do with cycling.

On a climb in the 1952 Tour de France a photographer caught one of them passing a bottle to the other, and the picture became the most argued-about image in Italian sport.

Nobody has ever settled who is giving and who is receiving. Coppi said he gave it. Bartali said he did. Both told it their own way for the rest of their lives, and the photograph refuses to take a side.

Stories worth passing on, not just remembering.
