About the print
Third. Croatia had been an independent state for seven years when they played their first World Cup, in France in 1998.
They beat Romania in the round of sixteen and then took apart Germany, the reigning European champions, three nil in the quarter-final. France beat them in the semi-final, both goals coming from Lilian Thuram, a defender who had never scored for his country and never did again.
In the third place match they beat the Netherlands two one. Davor Suker scored six goals and finished as the tournament's leading scorer. Croatia reached the final twenty years later, in 2018.
Stories worth passing on, not just remembering.
