Denmark 1992 Art Print, European Champions, Vintage Football Wall Art
About the print
2-0. Denmark had not qualified for the 1992 European Championship. They were called up ten days before it started, after Yugoslavia were removed as the country broke apart, and arrived in Sweden with nine days to prepare and kit borrowed from the under twenty ones.
They beat France, then the Netherlands, then met the newly reunified Germany in the final at Gothenburg on 26 June. John Jensen scored after eighteen minutes and Kim Vilfort after seventy eight. Peter Schmeichel kept the rest out, including a save from Klinsmann he still calls the best of his career.
It remains the only major tournament Denmark has won, and the only one won by a team that was not invited.
Stories worth passing on, not just remembering.
