About the print

Five. Italian championships in a row, between 1943 and 1949. Torino were four points clear with four matches left when the season stopped.

On 4 May 1949 the aircraft bringing them back from a friendly in Lisbon flew into the retaining wall behind the basilica of Superga, on the hill above the city. Everyone on board was killed, thirty one people, including the whole first team.

Italy had once fielded ten Torino players in the same national side.

Stories worth passing on, not just remembering.
