About the print
Seventeen. The number of players Hellas Verona used across the whole of the 1984-85 league season, at the end of which they were champions of Italy.
Serie A at the time held Maradona, Platini, Zico and Rummenigge, and the title had been shared between the clubs of Milan, Turin and Rome for decades. Verona opened by beating Napoli three one on the day Maradona made his debut, with Hans-Peter Briegel scoring.
Briegel finished the season with nine league goals from defence, Preben Elkjaer with eight. Osvaldo Bagnoli was the manager. It remains the only scudetto Verona has won.
Stories worth passing on, not just remembering.
