About the print
6-3. England had never lost at home to a side from continental Europe. Hungary were Olympic champions, unbeaten for three years, and played a system nobody in England had faced.
Nandor Hidegkuti dropped off the front line into the space between defence and midfield, scored inside the first minute and finished with three. Ferenc Puskas pulled the ball back from under a sliding Billy Wright and scored one of the goals people still describe.
England went to Budapest the following May and lost seven one. Two years later the uprising scattered the team across Europe.
Stories worth passing on, not just remembering.
