About the print
34-32. Japan had won one World Cup match in twenty four years. South Africa were two time world champions.
In the last minute at Brighton, trailing thirty two to twenty nine, Japan were given a penalty in front of the posts. Three points would have drawn the match against the Springboks, which on its own would have been the result of the tournament.
They turned it down and went to the corner, keeping the ball through phase after phase until Karne Hesketh went over on the left after the eighty minutes were up. Eddie Jones was the coach. It is still called the biggest upset in the history of the sport.
Stories worth passing on, not just remembering.
