Nadia Comaneci Art Print, Montreal 1976, Vintage Black and White Gymnastics Wall Art
€44.90
About the print
The board showed 1.00. The scoreboards at the Montreal Olympics had been built with three digits, because the manufacturer had been told that a perfect score in gymnastics was not achievable and therefore did not need to be displayed.
When Nadia Comaneci finished her uneven bars routine the board showed 1.00, and for a few seconds nobody in the arena understood what had happened.
She was fourteen. She scored six more perfect tens at those Games and left with three golds. The rule that allowed a fourteen year old to compete was changed afterwards, and so were the scoreboards.
Stories worth passing on, not just remembering.
