About the print

5-3 on penalties. Red Star Belgrade beat Marseille in Bari on 29 May 1991 to win the European Cup, after nobody had scored in a hundred and twenty minutes.

The side was built almost entirely at the club and included Savicevic, Prosinecki, Mihajlovic, Pancev and Jugovic. Three weeks after the final, Slovenia and Croatia declared independence and the country the players had represented began to come apart.

The squad was sold across Europe within a year, and clubs from what remained of Yugoslavia were banned from European competition from 1992 to 1995. It is the only European Cup a Yugoslav club ever won.

Stories worth passing on, not just remembering.
