About the print

One. The Seattle SuperSonics won the NBA championship on 1 June 1979, beating the Washington Bullets in five games. It is the only major title the city has won.

They had no player who was considered a superstar. Lenny Wilkens coached them, Gus Williams scored and Jack Sikma rebounded, and the team's strength was a defence that led the league.

In 2006 the franchise was sold to an investment group from Oklahoma City. Public money for a new arena was refused, the lease was settled, and in 2008 the team was moved and renamed.

Stories worth passing on, not just remembering.
