About the print
Sixty-five thousand people stood up. One hundred and fifty metres into an Olympic semi-final, Derek Redmond's hamstring tore and he went down. Officials arrived with a stretcher and he waved them away.
He got up and started hopping towards a finish line two hundred and fifty metres away, in a race that had already been won. His father Jim came out of the stand, went past security, put an arm around him, and they finished it together.
He was disqualified for receiving assistance. The result sheet for that semi-final does not carry his name.
Stories worth passing on, not just remembering.
