East German Handball Art Print, Three World Titles, Vintage Wall Art
About the print
Three world titles. East Germany won three world championships between 1971 and 1978, and at the Olympics settled for a silver and a bronze.
It was a team born of the most intensive sports system on the planet: early selection, total training, results as an objective of state. Its players, powerful and prepared, ruled a movement that in Eastern Europe was an arena religion.
Then East Germany vanished, absorbed into a united Germany, and that national team ceased to exist along with its whole system. The medals of vanished countries do not age: they stand still, telling of a world that thought it would last forever.
Stories worth passing on, not just remembering.
