About the print

— THE STORY —

Ronnie Peterson was speed in its spectacular form: the SuperSwede took corners sideways, in slides that photographs still fail to explain, and the public loved him for that. Ten Grand Prix victories, two seasons as world runner-up, never the crown: fate cast him in the loyal role. In 1978, returned to Lotus as second driver, he honoured the pact by never attacking his teammate Andretti in the standings while remaining, on many Sundays, the faster man. At Monza, a chain collision at the start: broken legs, an operation, and death the next day from an embolism, at thirty-four. Andretti won the title in mourning. The fastest man was the most loyal: that is how he is remembered.

There is a moment almost all of us lived through, and almost nobody photographed: an older person telling you about a match you never saw. Lost Teams tells the stories of teams and champions who no longer exist, and what they left behind.

Every print begins with a true fact: a number that looks like a misprint and is not.

Hang it. One day someone will ask you what it is, and you will know where to begin.
