About the print
A team of students. The Soviet team had won every Olympic gold since 1964 and had beaten a squad of National Hockey League all-stars 6-0 the year before. Thirteen days before the Games they beat the United States 10-3 in an exhibition.
The American team was college players, average age twenty-two, the youngest in the tournament. At Lake Placid they won 4-3, with Mike Eruzione scoring the winner and Jim Craig facing thirty-nine shots.
It was not the final. They still had to beat Finland two days later to win anything at all, and almost nobody remembers that they did.
Stories worth passing on, not just remembering.
