Torvill and Dean Art Print, Bolero Sarajevo 1984, Vintage Figure Skating Wall Art

About the print

Nine sixes. Ravel's Bolero runs for seventeen minutes and the free dance was limited to four minutes and ten seconds. The music was cut to four twenty-eight, which was still too long.

So Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean used the rule that timing begins when the skates touch the ice, and spent the opening eighteen seconds on their knees. She was an insurance clerk and he had been a police constable in Nottingham.

Every one of the nine judges gave them a perfect six for artistic impression, which had never happened before at an Olympic Games and has not happened since.

Stories worth passing on, not just remembering.
