Varenne Art Print, Il Capitano, Italian Trotting Legend, Vintage Black and White Wall Art
About the print
Sixty-two wins from seventy-three starts. Between 1998 and 2002 Varenne raced at the top of harness racing and lost eleven times in his whole career. In 2001 and again in 2002 he took the Prix d'Amerique at Vincennes and the Elitlopp at Solvalla, the two races that settle the argument, both years, both times.
In 2001 he was named horse of the year in Italy, in France and in the United States, in the same season. Italy called him il Capitano, the Captain, and for a few years a trotting horse was the most famous athlete in the country.
This print puts the number on the wall: 62, and the eleven defeats that never mattered.
Stories worth passing on, not just remembering.
