About the print

They were called the Professors. Their basketball felt like a lecture. The Yugoslavia of Cosic, Dalipagic and Kicanovic won World and European titles and took Olympic gold in Moscow in 1980, playing with a technical culture the Balkans had raised into a school.

Then came the next generation, Drazen Petrovic's, and in 1990 another world title. Serbs, Croats, Slovenes and Bosnians in the same dressing room: the team was proof that the country could work.

When the war came, basketball was among the first things to break, and former teammates stopped speaking. The school remained, scattered under new flags.
